About this place

Last updated Jul 19, 2026

Narayanganj is a large, bustling city in central Bangladesh, home to around 2 million people. It sits close to Dhaka and is historically known as the 'Dundee of Bangladesh' due to its prominent jute mill industry and trade. The city was named after a Hindu religious leader and carries a distinct industrial character. While it's a congested urban center typical of the region, the Shitalakshya River offers pockets of calm and a chance to watch local life unfold along its ghats.
