Cookies and storage

Effective date: 19 July 2026

Cookies and similar technologies

This page describes how Travel Timing Guide uses browser storage, HTTP cookies, and similar technologies.

Questions: [email protected]. See also our Privacy policy.

Categories

We group technologies as follows:

  • Strictly necessary — required for the site to function (preferences, consent record, admin session for operators)
  • Analytics — Cloudflare Web Analytics to understand usage; loaded only when you enable it
  • Advertising — on-page scripts from Google AdSense and similar partners; loaded based on your region and choices (see below)
  • Affiliate link conversion — Travelpayouts script from emrldco.com that may convert outbound links and set cookies; loaded only when you enable it. Plain affiliate booking links on destination pages still work without this script.

Browser local storage

We use localStorage (not HTTP cookies) for the items below:

  • ttg-color-scheme: Remember light, dark, or automatic theme. Retained until you clear site data.
  • ttg-consent-v1: Store cookie, analytics, and advertising consent choices. Retained until you clear site data or we publish a new consent version.
  • ttg-last-search: Remember your last destination search on this device so you can continue comparing. Retained until you clear site data or dismiss the banner.
  • ttg-last-search-dismissed: Remember if you dismissed the continue-search banner. Retained until you clear site data or start a new search.

HTTP cookies

We use HTTP cookies for strictly necessary preferences and operator sessions. The unit preference cookie is readable from JavaScript so you can change units without a full page reload. The admin session cookie is HttpOnly.

  • ttg_authentication: HttpOnly admin control panel session (operators only, /control-panel). Retained until logout or session expiry.
  • ttg_unit_system: Remember metric or imperial units. Retained 1 year or until cleared.

Regional differences

We infer your general location from your IP address (via Cloudflare) to apply the right cookie rules.

If you are in the UK, EEA, Switzerland, or a similar jurisdiction, we ask for opt-in consent before loading non-essential analytics or advertising scripts.

In other regions, advertising scripts may load by default on your first visit, with a notice and the option to opt out at any time via “Manage cookie preferences” in the footer.

If you previously visited from another region, we may ask for consent again when stricter rules apply.

Analytics

When analytics is enabled, we load Cloudflare Web Analytics (beacon script from static.cloudflareinsights.com).

You can change your choice at any time using “Manage cookie preferences” in the site footer.

Advertising

When advertising is enabled, we load on-page scripts from our advertising partners (see Recipients and processors in our Privacy policy). Those partners may load additional scripts and set HTTP cookies on your device for ad delivery and related measurement. Enabling advertising does not control whether editorial affiliate booking links appear on destination pages.

In the UK, EEA, Switzerland, and similar regions, we use Google Consent Mode so Google AdSense may serve limited or non-personalized ads when you enable advertising but have not opted into personalized ad signals through a Google-certified consent platform.

If you disable advertising or later withdraw consent, we stop loading these scripts. Cookies already set by partners may remain until you clear site data in your browser settings.

You can change your choice at any time using “Manage cookie preferences” in the site footer.

Affiliate booking links

Destination pages may show partner booking links (for example activities, transfers, eSIM, or travel insurance) without loading third-party scripts on our site.

If you follow a link, the partner site may set its own cookies and process data under its privacy policy. We may earn a commission when you complete a qualifying purchase.

Affiliate link conversion

When you enable Affiliate links in cookie preferences, we load a Travelpayouts script from emrldco.com that may automatically convert eligible outbound links and set cookies on your device.

This is separate from display advertising (Google AdSense) and from plain partner booking links shown on destination pages, which do not require this script.

If you disable Affiliate links or withdraw consent, we stop loading this script. Cookies already set by Travelpayouts may remain until you clear site data in your browser settings.

You can change your choice at any time using “Manage cookie preferences” in the site footer.

Third-party requests

When you view a map, your browser requests tiles from OpenFreeMap. Those requests may include your IP address and User-Agent. This is necessary to display the map and is not controlled by a consent toggle.

How to manage choices

Use the cookie banner, notice bar, or footer link “Manage cookie preferences” to accept, reject, or customize non-essential cookies.

You can also clear site data in your browser settings to remove stored preferences, consent, and third-party cookies.
