About this place

Last updated Jul 19, 2026

Jessore (also spelled Jashore) is a compact southern Bangladeshi city that works well as a friendly stopover on routes to Rajshahi, Khulna, or the Benapole border. It is not a major sightseeing destination, but its walkable center and welcoming locals make it a low-key place to break a longer journey.

The town holds a few points of historical and cultural interest, including one of the nation's oldest public libraries and a war memorial at the city entrance. Simple local eateries, a couple of modest markets, and the chance to meet residents while asking for directions are the main draw.

  • Play golf at the cantonment — if you can connect with an army officer, you may get access to a 9-hole course on the Jessore cantonment grounds.
  • Walk the local parks — Binodia Park, Jess Garden Park, the Boat Club area, and Newtown Park with its lake sit just beside the main town and make easy, low-key outings.
  • Visit the airport strip — locally known as the runway, this spot offers a simple open-air diversion near town.
  • Stroll through the markets — Boro Bazar and Collectry Market sell clothes, food, and everyday goods; the experience is more about the bustle than high-end shopping.
