About this place

Last updated Jun 14, 2026

Yibin is known across China as the "first city on the Yangtze", set where the Jinsha, Min, and Yangtze Rivers meet. This riverfront location in East Sichuan shaped its long history — from an administrative center during the Han Dynasty to a busy trade port in the Ming and Qing periods. Merchant halls and old riverfront streets still echo that trading heritage, while the city's modern skyline and energy industries push steadily forward.

Today, most Chinese travelers know Yibin for Wuliangye, the celebrated baijiu that brought national fame to the city. Beyond the distillery, the city offers a mix of river scenery, lush mountain parks, and a relaxed pace that feels a world away from Sichuan's mega-cities. Its subtropical monsoon climate brings mild winters and hot, humid summers, making the shoulder seasons the most comfortable times to explore.
