Wuwei is a significant city in Gansu Province, historically known as a key stop on the ancient Silk Road. While it may not have the international profile of some other Chinese cities, it offers a genuine glimpse into provincial life and deep historical roots.

The city holds a place of pride in Chinese archaeology as the location where the celebrated Flying Horse bronze sculpture was unearthed. This iconic relic, now housed in Lanzhou, was discovered at the Leitai Temple site in Wuwei, marking the city as a place of considerable cultural heritage.
