About this place
Hankou is the historic western district of Wuhan, encompassing the three administrative areas of Jiang'an, Jianghan, and Qiaokou (with Dongxihu also often grouped in). Once the site of five early 20th-century foreign concessions (United Kingdom, France, Germany, Russia, and Japan), the area is rich in colonial architecture, particularly in the well-preserved British concession. Today, Hankou is a bustling urban hub crisscrossed by multiple metro lines and connected to Wuchang by a frequent and affordable ferry service across the Yangtze River. Visitors can explore a mix of historical streets, modern shopping malls, and riverside promenades.
