About this place
Vadodara (also known as Baroda) is a city in central Gujarat, India, situated on the banks of the Vishwamitri River. Named for the banyan trees that thrive in the area, it is widely regarded as the cultural capital of Gujarat. The city blends a rich historical legacy with modern amenities, making it an appealing base for exploring the region.
Vadodara rose to prominence under the Maratha Gaekwad dynasty, whose enlightened rule left a legacy of grand palaces, educational institutions, and industrial development. Today, the city is a cosmopolitan hub that attracts people from across India and abroad, offering a calm small-town feel alongside the conveniences of a major city. The eastern part retains the old city's historic character, while the west, beyond the railway station, represents the modern face of Vadodara.
