About this place
Ulsan is a dynamic seaside metropolitan city of 1.2 million people in southeastern South Korea. Known for its deep whaling heritage and as the country's industrial backbone, the city juxtaposes massive shipyards and factories with striking natural escapes. Its 2002 World Cup host legacy lives on at Munsu Football Stadium, home to the popular Ulsan Hyundai FC.
The city unfolds across four urban wards and a rural county, each with a distinct character. Samsandong serves as the upmarket hub with department stores, global brands, and a lively nightlife scene. Seongnamdong retains an old-town feel with affordable shopping and foreigner-friendly bars, while Mugeodong's university area draws younger crowds seeking restaurants and late-night fun.

Planning Tips
- Purchase a transportation discount card for bus travel: it gives a fare discount and a free transfer if you board the next bus within one hour — just remember to tap off when exiting.
- Bring cash or a transport card when boarding city buses; drivers can make small change but prefer exact fare. Regular yellow buses cost a flat fee regardless of distance.
- Consider taking the train between Busan and Ulsan for coastal views along the route, especially near Haeundae, before the line is rerouted and the sea vistas disappear.
- If arriving by KTX, note that Ulsan Station is far from the city center in Eonyang. Express buses (series 5000) and seated bus 1703 connect to Samsandong; local buses are cheaper but much slower.
- The Ulsan City Tour sightseeing bus offers a convenient introduction to the Twelve Scenic Areas; reservations are required, and same-day KTX ticket holders receive a 10% discount.
