About this place
Tolyatti is a large industrial city in Russia's Samara Oblast, best known as the headquarters of the Lada automobile manufacturer. The city was renamed after Italian communist Palmiro Togliatti and was entirely relocated in the 1950s to its present site to make way for the Zhiguli Hydroelectric Station. Today it has a population of roughly 720,000, with a significant portion of the workforce tied to the auto industry.
