About this place
Sumy is a regional capital in northeastern Ukraine, founded as a Cossack fortress in the 17th century. It grew into a key center of the Slobozhanshchina historical province and now serves as the administrative heart of Sumy Oblast. The city combines a modest urban core with green riverbanks along the Psel River.
The city offers a relaxed pace and a compact center that visitors can explore on foot. Two main thoroughfares, Soborna and Voskresenska, form the backbone of the central district, while the local art museum holds one of the most notable collections in the country.
