About this place
Seoul is the dynamic capital of South Korea, a sprawling metropolis where centuries of history coexist with cutting-edge technology and culture. The city's heart, the Jung-gu district, serves as a historic, administrative, and commercial hub, containing many of Seoul's most famous landmarks. During the Joseon Dynasty, this area formed the core of Hanseong, the capital city, and was home to royal palaces like Gyeongbokgung and Deoksugung, government offices, and traditional markets.
Today, Jung-gu is a compact and highly walkable area that blends the old and new. It features historic palaces, major shopping districts like the frenetic Myeong-dong and the vast Dongdaemun fashion complex, traditional markets such as Namdaemun and Gwangjang, and cultural landmarks. The area is also a major transportation hub, centered around Seoul Station, which connects to high-speed KTX trains and the AREX airport express to Incheon International Airport.
Beyond its urban core, Seoul offers a wealth of diverse experiences. When the bustle of the city becomes overwhelming, a retreat to Namsan Mountain provides a pleasant park, hiking trails, and panoramic views of the city from the N. Seoul Tower. The city's energy is palpable, with endless streets of frantic shopping, hundreds of office buildings, and historic gems scattered amidst the modern hustle and bustle.
