About this place
Saskatoon is a handsome prairie city set on the bluffs of the South Saskatchewan River, where early planners preserved the riverbank for parks and pathways. With a metro population around 317,000, it is Saskatchewan's largest city and its cultural and economic heart.
The river and its bridges shape the traveler's experience — stroll the Meewasin Trail, cross the University, Broadway, and Idylwyld bridges, and take in the Art Nouveau architecture that earned the nickname "Paris of the Prairies." The walkable districts of Nutana, Broadway Avenue, and the Central Business District reward exploration with independent shops, restaurants, and a pedestrian-friendly scale.

Planning Tips
- Book summer festival passes early — Folk Fest passports and Fringe Festival performances draw crowds; secure tickets in advance if visiting in August.
- Use a car for outlying areas — while the river districts are walkable, renting a car at the airport is the most convenient way to reach attractions beyond the core.
- Take advantage of free WiFi — Saskatoon offers complimentary wireless internet across the downtown core, Broadway Avenue, and the University of Saskatchewan campus.
- Stay aware of neighbourhood safety — avoid the alphabet avenues west of Idylwyld, particularly south of 22nd Street and near 33rd Street, especially after dark.
- Enjoy the bridges on foot — walking across the University, Broadway, and Idylwyld bridges gives the best views and connects key visitor districts without needing a car.
