About this place
San Luis is the capital of San Luis Province, set at the foot of the Sierra Grandes at about 730 m elevation. Once a quiet administrative town, it grew into a modern, well-serviced city with a population of roughly 170,000. For visitors, the city itself is compact and functional, with few traditional sights, but its real appeal lies as a gateway to the reservoirs, gorges, and valleys of the Sierras de San Luis just a few kilometers from the center.

Planning Tips
- Getting there — direct flights connect the local airport with Buenos Aires, and long-distance buses on the Mendoza–Buenos Aires–Santiago route all stop here.
- Getting around — the downtown is walkable, but you will need a car or taxi to reach the gorges and reservoirs outside the city.
- Pack for the season — shoulder months are pleasant, but bring a warm layer for cool nights and strong sun protection year-round.
- Use as a base — plan to stay a night or two and explore the surrounding valleys, rather than expecting an action-packed urban itinerary.
