About this place
Sakura is a historic city in Chiba Prefecture, known for its large history museum and an annual tulip festival. With direct train connections to Tokyo, Chiba, and Narita Airport, it functions as a quiet bedroom community with a surprising Dutch connection.
In 2020, the city was home to about 174,000 people. Despite the name, Sakura has no linguistic link to cherry blossoms — the kanji are unrelated — though the association remains popular.
