About this place
Saint-Louis is a historic coastal city in northern Senegal, sitting at the mouth of the Senegal River about 260 km north of Dakar. The city spreads across mainland Sor, the narrow Île de N'Dar, and the sandy Langue de Barbarie Peninsula. Its UNESCO-listed old town, colonial architecture, and relaxed island atmosphere make it a distinctive stop on Senegal's Grande Côte.
The island core is compact and walkable, lined with brightly colored buildings, wrought-iron balconies, and remnants of its French colonial past. From here it's easy to reach nearby bird reserves, riverside scenery, and the beaches of the Hydrobase — a blend of cultural heritage and natural escapes in one manageable destination.
