About this place
Sabadell is a substantial commercial and industrial city in Barcelona province, set along the River Ripoll about 20 km north of Barcelona. Once nicknamed the "Catalan Manchester," it led Catalonia's Industrial Revolution with its textile mills and became Spain's foremost wool city in the mid‑19th century.
Today many of those former mills have been converted into residential buildings and services, giving the city an intriguing blend of industrial heritage and modern life. Its position at the heart of the Vallès Occidental comarca, where it serves as a co‑capital alongside Terrassa, makes it a practical base for exploring inland Catalonia while staying well connected to the coast.

Planning Tips
- Use the FGC line from Barcelona — The Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat connects Plaça Catalunya directly to several Sabadell stations and is often more convenient than Rodalies.
- Consider the bus network for local movement — Numerous bus lines (L1–L80) cover neighborhoods from Can Deu to the southern station and surrounding areas.
- Driving is straightforward but mind the traffic — The C‑58 motorway links the city to Barcelona, Terrassa, and Manresa; ring roads such as the Ronda Oest help bypass the center.
- Combine with Terrassa or Sant Cugat — Sabadell makes a logical stop on a short industrial‑heritage or Vallès Occidental circuit.
