About this place

Esquilino and San Giovanni are adjacent neighborhoods in Rome, each with its own distinct character. Esquilino is named for the Esquiline hill and lies just south of Termini station, centered around Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II. Today it's partly a Chinese immigrant neighborhood, known for its specialty groceries and shoe stores. San Giovanni is named after the Basilica of San Giovanni in Laterano, which serves as the Roman Catholic cathedral of Rome, and is located southeast of the Esquiline. Together, these areas offer a more locally oriented and multicultural side of the city, with good transit connections to the historic center.
