About this place

Last updated Jul 26, 2026

Richmond Hill is a suburban city in Southern Ontario, about 20 km north of downtown Toronto. Part of the Greater Toronto Area, it grew rapidly during the post-war suburban boom and today is home to a diverse community with notable Chinese and Persian populations.

The historic core runs along Yonge Street between Major Mackenzie Drive and Crosby Avenue, while the broader city offers a mix of parks, shopping plazas, and residential neighbourhoods. Its location just north of Highway 407 and alongside Highway 404 makes it an accessible base for exploring York Region.

Planning Tips

Last updated Jul 26, 2026
  • Validate your bus ticket — YRT and Viva require timestamp validation before riding; use machines at Viva stops or onboard YRT buses.
  • Check transit schedules ahead — especially on weekends and holidays when GO train service to Toronto is unavailable and some bus routes run less frequently.
  • Consider a car for flexibility — free parking is nearly universal, and a vehicle makes reaching scattered points of interest much easier.
  • Plan airport transfers — GO Bus Route 40 provides reliable hourly service from Pearson Airport's Terminal 1 to Richmond Hill Centre.
