About this place
Rabat, meaning "Fortified Place", is the capital city of Morocco and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Situated on the Atlantic Ocean at the mouth of the Bou Regreg river, it forms a metropolitan area of 2.6 million people with its neighboring cities Salé and Temara.
Known for its easy-going atmosphere by Moroccan standards, Rabat blends historic charm with modern life. Visitors can explore ancient ruins, walk along a dramatic coastline, and enjoy a variety of cultural festivals, all while navigating a city that is generally considered safe and manageable on foot. The city offers a more relaxed alternative to the intense bustle of Marrakesh, with a pleasant corniche, tranquil parks, and a traditional medina ripe for exploration.

- If your trip coincides with a major festival like Mawazine, book accommodation and event tickets well in advance.
- Dress modestly to blend in and minimize unwanted attention, especially women, who should avoid low-cut tops, midriffs, or shorts.
