About this place

Kokand sits at a historic crossroads on the southwestern edge of the Ferghana Valley, where Silk Road routes once branched north toward Tashkent and east over the mountains to Kashgar. With roots stretching back at least a millennium, the city was the seat of the powerful Kokand Khanate from 1709 to 1876, a legacy still visible in its surviving mosques and monuments. Today it is a bustling Uzbek city of roughly 260,000 people, blending everyday Central Asian life with echoes of its regal past.
