About this place
Pingxiang is a mid-sized city in western Jiangxi Province, near the border with Hunan. While it carries the administrative title of "city," much of its territory is rural or county-level, with the main urban core concentrated in Anyuan District. Home to about 1.8 million people across its full area, Pingxiang serves primarily as a commercial and transportation hub rather than a traditional tourist draw.
The city is actively working to develop its tourism profile, spotlighting natural scenery, early Communist Party history, and local minority culture. Travelers should note that this effort is still in its early stages — English is not widely spoken, and the tourism infrastructure may feel less polished than in more established destinations. That said, visitors who enjoy exploring places before they appear on typical itineraries will find Pingxiang a genuine slice of inland China.
