About this place

Last updated Jul 12, 2026

Pasay is a city of sharp contrasts, located just south of Manila in the National Capital Region. It's best known as the home of Ninoy Aquino International Airport, making it the primary gateway to the Philippines, and for the modern, reclaimed Bay City area along Manila Bay. This waterfront development houses the enormous SM Mall of Asia and other entertainment complexes, offering a sanitized and comfortable visitor experience.

Away from the reclaimed land, the cityscape transforms into a dense and chaotic urban environment. The EDSA Rotunda area serves as a major transportation hub but carries a seedier reputation. For most leisure travelers, Pasay functions as a practical transit point rather than a primary destination, with its main attractions concentrated in the more stable Bay City district.

Planning Tips

Last updated Jul 12, 2026
  • Use ride-hailing apps — For safety and comfort, cars or motorcycles booked via an app are the best transport options, preferable to public transit or self-driving.
  • Beware of airport taxis — Use only the yellow metered airport taxis, insist on the meter, and be alert for tampering scams. White taxis are cheaper but are not officially sanctioned to pick up arrivals.
  • Base yourself in Bay City — For a more pleasant and secure stay, choose accommodations and activities within the modern reclaimed area near SM Mall of Asia and Star City.
