About this place
Palopo is a coastal city in South Sulawesi, Indonesia, where the Gulf of Bone meets the foothills of the Wallacea mountain ranges. Its motto — "Bersih indah dan nyaman" ("Clean, beautiful and pleasant") — reflects a place that combines sea views, mountain backdrops, and fresh air.
The city is known as the birthplace of the epic creation myth La Galigo, one of the world's longest literary works. Rich Bugis culture, Muslim heritage, and a historic quarter centered on the 17th-century Old Jami Mosque give Palopo a distinct identity within the region.
