About this place
Osogbo (sometimes spelled Oshogbo) is a vibrant city of nearly 400,000 people in Osun State, Southwest Nigeria. Often called "Ile Aro" (home of dyeing), it has long been a major center for traditional textile arts, especially adire cloth. Beyond dyeing, Osogbo holds one of the highest concentrations of art galleries in the region, showcasing woodcarving, painting, and other contemporary and traditional works.
The city is perhaps best known as the host of the annual Osun-Osogbo festival, a two-week celebration centered on the sacred Osun Grove along the River Osun. This UNESCO-recognized cultural event draws thousands of worshippers, spectators, and tourists from around the world each August, making Osogbo a compelling stop for travelers interested in Yoruba heritage and living artistic traditions.
