About this place

Last updated Jun 20, 2026

Osasco is a large, industrially focused city within the Greater São Paulo metropolitan area. It emerged around a 19th-century train station and grew rapidly in the second half of the 20th century alongside the expansion of São Paulo’s urban sprawl. Though fully conurbated with its neighbors and home to over 650,000 residents, it remains primarily a center for business and industry rather than casual tourism.

In recent years, the city has experienced notable economic growth and is undertaking a long-term effort to remodel its central district along the Tietê River. While conventional sightseeing is limited, Osasco holds a unique cultural spot as the home of the premier women’s volleyball team Sollys, in a country where the sport enjoys immense popularity.
