About this place
Munger is a historic town on the southern bank of the Ganges in Bihar, once called Monghyr. It carries echoes of the Mahabharata as the city of Karna and has long been known for ironwork, including firearms and swords. Today the town balances that industrial heritage with an important yoga centre and a distinct local food culture.
The riverfront setting gives Munger a quiet, unhurried feel, and while it draws few international visitors, travellers who stop here often come for the yoga ashram or to sample sweets and snacks rarely found elsewhere.
