About this place
Minna is the capital of Niger State, situated in Nigeria’s North Central region. A historic railway junction since the early 20th century, the city grew as a major collection point for agricultural goods — from groundnuts and cotton to yams and rice — and remains an important trading hub for local produce and livestock.
The city serves as an administrative centre and is home to the Nupe and Gwari ethnic groups. While quieter than Nigeria’s largest metropolises, Minna offers visitors a glimpse of everyday life in the Middle Belt, with a mix of local markets, emerging leisure spots, and easy access to the surrounding countryside.

Planning Tips
- Use registered motor parks — for intercity buses, stick to official parks like Abdulsalam, Central, or Peace Travel; private vehicles for commercial use are banned.
- Negotiate transport fares — motorbike and keke napep rides start around ₦100, but confirm the price before you set off.
- Shop at Abdulkadir Kure Market — for affordable food, household items, and clothing, this ultra-modern market is the city’s go-to.
- Pack light, breathable clothing — year-round heat means you'll want fabrics that keep you cool, plus rain gear if visiting outside the dry season.
