About this place
Meycauayan is an industrial city in Bulacan province, just north of Metro Manila. Founded in 1578, it is one of the oldest towns in the area — its name translates to "a place with lots of bamboo," and patches of that landscape remain in the northeastern barangays. Granted city status in 2006, it continues to urbanize rapidly while still serving as a northern gateway into Bulacan.
For travelers, Meycauayan's appeal lies in its role as a transit hub and its proximity to Manila. Jeepneys and minibuses connect it to Valenzuela, Caloocan, and Quezon City, and it also acts as a staging point for trips deeper into Bulacan. The North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) provides fast road access, with the MacArthur Highway serving as a toll-free, though often congested, alternative. Most visitors will use Meycauayan as a practical corridor rather than a sightseeing destination, though its long history and local fiestas offer glimpses of everyday life in the province.

Best Time to Visit
- Late December to early May — The driest window of the year, with the most comfortable weather and lowest flood risk.
- Avoid June to November — The monsoon and typhoon season brings heavy rain and a high chance of flooding in low-lying neighborhoods.
- Plan around midday heat — Even during the dry months, afternoon temperatures can be intense, so schedule activities for mornings or late afternoons.

Planning Tips
- Check flood conditions before you go — During the rainy season, monitor weather updates and typhoon warnings, as flooding can disrupt road access.
- Use the NLEX for speed, MacArthur Highway as backup — The expressway is quicker but tolled; the old highway is free yet frequently congested.
- Mind the minibus wait times — Minibuses from Quezon City may take up to an hour to fill before departing, so budget extra time for this connection.
- Health precautions in wet months — If you must wade into floodwaters, consult a health professional promptly about leptospirosis prophylaxis.
- Use Meycauayan as a transit base — Local jeepney hubs connect you onward to Malolos, Baliwag, and other points across Bulacan.
