Planning Tips
- Arriving by train — the daily service from Lubango departs at 07:00; the trip takes about 12 hours, so pack food and water.
- Overland from Namibia — if crossing at Katwitwi, take a moto-taxi from the border to Hotel Katuitui (about 7 km) and catch a bush taxi to Menongue; the track is rough and 4WD-only.
- Cash and currency — carry kwanzas; there is an ATM at the Katwitwi border that accepts international Visa and Mastercard.
- Ground transport — paved roads exist on some approaches, but stretches of bush track demand patience and a sturdy vehicle.
