About this place

Last updated Jul 18, 2026

Malolos is the capital of Bulacan province and a city of deep historical importance in the Philippines. It served as the seat of the short-lived First Philippine Republic in 1898–99, giving Asia its first constitutional republic. Today the compact urban center still holds a small heritage district of Spanish-era houses around Camestisuhan (Pariancillo), while a newer commercial spine runs north along MacArthur Highway and the provincial capitol. For travelers it makes a manageable history-focused stop between Manila and points north, with the key landmarks clustered in a walkable area south of the Malolos River.

  • Getting there by road — From Manila, take NLEX and exit at Tabang; from the north, use Santa Rita exit. MacArthur Highway also runs past Barasoain.
