About this place
Malda is an important junction and the gateway to North Bengal from the south, as well as the starting point for exploring historic sites like Gour, Pandua and Jagjivanpur. Officially called English Bazar, the city's name is a remnant of its 17th-century British trading past across the Mahananda River.
Beyond its strategic location, Malda is celebrated as the "mango city" of West Bengal. The region's folk culture, particularly the unique gombhira tradition, offers a glimpse into the daily life and creative spirit of the local people.
