About this place

Last updated Jun 27, 2026

The Macau Peninsula is the historic and bustling core of China's Special Administrative Region of Macau. Almost entirely built up across its 8.5 square km, it's the most urbanized and populous district in the territory. For visitors, this compact peninsula packs an outsized punch, blending centuries-old heritage with glittering modern entertainment.

You'll likely arrive here first, whether by ferry at the main terminal or via the Portas do Cerco land crossing from mainland China. The peninsula serves as the gateway to the rest of Macau, connecting to Taipa Island by three bridges and, more recently, via the light rail system from Barra.
