About this place

Last updated Jun 13, 2026

Kuala Lumpur is a vibrant tropical capital where a modern skyline towers over historic districts and lush green spaces. The city pulses with energy, blending gleaming shopping malls and bustling street markets with serene pockets of nature. In the heart of it all, the Perdana Botanical Garden offers a leafy escape—a 91.6-hectare park established in 1888 that remains one of the city's most cherished recreational spots.

Surrounding the garden's tranquil lake and winding footpaths are several of Kuala Lumpur's notable attractions, including the National Museum, the National Mosque, and the popular Bird Park. Getting here is part of the experience: approach via the MRT to Muzium Negara and ascend the covered stairs behind the museum for the quickest route, or enjoy a scenic walk from Chinatown across the Klang River footbridge.

Planning Tips

Last updated Jun 13, 2026
  • Take the MRT Sungai Buloh-Kajang line to Muzium Negara station: exit behind the museum and follow the covered stairs up the hill for the quickest entry to the Botanical Garden.
  • On foot from Brickfields, head through NU Sentral mall and the main station concourse toward Le Meridien and Hilton hotels, then use the highway bridge sidewalk to reach Jalan Travers and the museum.
  • From Chinatown, use the footbridge at Pasar Seni station to cross the Klang River, then walk through the pedestrian underpass on Jalan Kinabalu to reach the garden district.
  • Do not attempt to walk across the Jalan Damansara expressway—use designated footpaths and underpasses only.
  • The park is best explored on foot, so wear comfortable walking shoes and bring water.
  • Plan meals around the park's restaurants, located inside the Bird Park, Butterfly Park, and several museums.
  • If visiting in the evening, check closing times; the gardens and the pedestrian subway from Chinatown lock around 8 PM.
