About this place
Kozáni is a lively administrative hub in northern Greece, set roughly midway between Thessaloniki (120 km) and Ioannina (160 km). With around 70,000 residents, it serves as the capital of the West Macedonia periphery and makes a useful base for exploring the wider region.
The city blends old and modern architecture — you will spot the central Clock tower, the Town Hall, and elegant mansions belonging to historic figures Georgios Lassanis and Grigorios Vourkas. Kozáni also has a deep literary streak: its Kovendareios library is the second largest in Greece, holding 150,000 volumes, rare publications, and one of the few copies of Rigas Feraios’ Charter, cementing its reputation as a "city of books."

- Kozani Carnival (Apokries) — Join the town’s signature winter celebration, centered on huge bonfires (fanoi) lit in neighborhood squares. Locals sing the satirical Enteka song and dance around the fires late into the evening, especially on the Sunday of the last carnival week.

- Getting around — Use the local minibus network or hail a cheap blue taxi. Taxi rates double between midnight and 5 am.
