About this place
Kigoma is a regional capital in western Tanzania, beautifully set on the eastern shore of Lake Tanganyika. It serves as an important railway terminus and harbour, with a population of roughly 232,000. The lakefront setting gives the city a relaxed atmosphere, though visitors should note that infrastructure remains basic — many roads are unpaved and electricity and water supply can be erratic.
