About this place
Kielce is the capital and largest city of Poland's Holy Cross Voivodeship, home to nearly 200,000 residents. Its history stretches back to the 10th century, and the city received its official charter and coat of arms in the late Middle Ages. It also holds a notable place in Polish academic history as the site of the country’s first higher technical university, founded in 1816.
The compact city center is anchored by its main street and easy walking routes. Kielce serves as a good base for exploring the surrounding Świętokrzyskie region, and it offers a mix of historical depth and modest urban life without the intense crowds of Poland’s largest tourist hubs.
