About this place
Kalaburagi, once known as Gulbarga or the "city of gardens," is a historical city in Northern Karnataka where a rocky landscape meets a rich tapestry of medieval and spiritual heritage. As the former capital of the Bahmani Sultanate, the city served as an important Sufi center, and today it presents an intriguing blend of fortifications, royal tombs, Hindu temples, and Sufi dargahs.
Visitors can explore layers of history dating back to the sixth century, with influences from the Rashtrakutas, Chalukyas, and the Bahmani kingdom. A modern Buddhist temple and interpretation centre adds another dimension to the city's diverse cultural fabric.
