About this place

Last updated Jul 18, 2026

Hudson County sits directly across the Hudson River from Manhattan, yet it remains one of the New York metro area’s most overlooked corners. Comprising dense, walkable cities such as Jersey City, Hoboken, and Bayonne, the county blends a proud immigrant heritage with striking views of the New York skyline. Its compact geography — wedged between the Hudson, Hackensack, and Passaic rivers — means waterfront parks, historic terminals, and lively commercial strips are never far apart.

Despite its small size, Hudson County packs in an unusually wide range of experiences. You can board a ferry to the Statue of Liberty, explore a world-class science museum, or wander a Cuban-influenced avenue, all within a few miles. Excellent transit links, including PATH trains and NJ Transit rail, make it a convenient base for visiting New York City while enjoying a distinctly New Jersey character.
