About this place

Last updated Jul 18, 2026

Jalalabad is the capital of Nangarhar Province in eastern Afghanistan, set near the Kabul and Kunar rivers a short distance from the Khyber Pass. With a population of nearly 900,000, it is known for its lush orange and palm trees and is often regarded as one of the country's most beautiful cities. A modern satellite city, Ghazi Amanullah Khan City, is under development about 15 km away.

The city is a major waypoint on the highway linking Kabul to Peshawar, Pakistan, and serves as the heart of Afghan cricket, with a new stadium under construction and many national players hailing from the region.
