About this place
Itabashi is a laid-back residential ward in northern Tokyo, far enough from the city center to feel local and unhurried. It borders Saitama Prefecture and is grouped with neighboring Kita and Nerima as a trio of suburban wards where everyday Tokyo life unfolds away from the major tourist circuits.
Itabashi covers a broad area, though the Itabashi Station on the JR Saikyo line sits at the ward’s far southeastern edge. Most of the ward is best explored via the Toei Mita subway line or the Tobu Tojo line. Travelers who base themselves here trade immediate access to downtown sights for a quieter, more residential experience, with nearby Ikebukuro serving as the closest major hub.
