About this place

Last updated Jul 12, 2026

Imus is the de jure capital of Cavite, a city steeped in Philippine Revolutionary history yet defined today by its role in the massive suburban sprawl south of Manila. It serves as the religious heart of the province, hosting the seat of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Imus.

While its landscape was once dominated by rice paddies, rapid development since the 1980s has transformed Imus into a bustling urban corridor along Aguinaldo Highway. The city honors its past at the Battle of Alapan site, where a giant flagpole commemorates a pivotal 1898 victory, offering a touchstone of national pride amid the commercial and residential growth.

  • Travel via CAVITEx — Coming from Manila, the Bacoor Exit on the Manila–Cavite Expressway provides the most direct route and lowest tolls compared to the southeastern expressways.
  • Monitor CALAx construction — The Cavite–Laguna Expressway will eventually serve Imus, but sections near Alapan are incomplete as of 2026, so stick to established routes for now.
