About this place
Guangyuan is a historically layered city tucked into the mountainous northern edge of Sichuan province, where the Sichuan basin meets the Qinling range. As a major stop on the ancient Shu Road and a key corridor during the Three Kingdoms era, the city holds a deep cultural legacy — it is also celebrated as the birthplace of Wu Zetian, China's only female emperor.
The modern city is compact and easy to navigate, centered on Lizhou District along the Jialing River. This setting makes it a pleasant base for exploring both urban riverside life and the dramatic natural scenery just outside town.
