About this place

Last updated Jun 13, 2026

Goiânia is a planned city and the capital of Goiás state, serving as a key urban hub in central Brazil. Founded in 1933, its radial street layout is organized around the intersection of Avenida Goiás and Avenida Anhanguera. The original art-deco character envisioned by architect Atílio Correia Lima still influences the city's early buildings, even as the metropolitan area has grown to well over two million residents.

Though the city is primarily a center for business and administration, it has a lively nighttime scene and several open-air markets that draw both locals and visitors. Public parks, shopping streets, and Sunday fairs offer low-key ways to experience the rhythm of daily life in a young, expanding region.
