About this place
Fushun is a significant prefecture-level city in eastern Liaoning Province, steeped in both industrial heritage and imperial history. Once a major coal mining center known as the 'Coal Capital of China,' the city later became the nation's largest producer of petrochemicals and refined chemicals. This industrial legacy is complemented by deep historical roots; the area is home to the former Manchu capital of Hetu Ala, founded in 1616, and the Yongling Tomb, both recognized as UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
Today, Fushun balances its heavy industry with a growing focus on environmental improvement, a drive launched in 2001 to mitigate the pollution from its factories. For travelers, the city offers a unique look into the origins of the Qing Dynasty and the legacy of modern China, including a museum dedicated to the national folk hero Lei Feng.
