About this place
Duque de Caxias is a major municipality in the Baixada Fluminense region, part of the greater Rio de Janeiro metropolitan area. Along with Nova Iguaçu, it serves as an economic hub for the surrounding 13 municipalities, anchored by substantial commercial and industrial activity.
The city is perhaps best known for hosting REDUC, one of the largest oil refineries in Brazil. Despite its economic weight, Caxias is closely tied to the center of Rio de Janeiro, with a large portion of its population commuting daily for work, making it an integral part of the capital's extended fabric.
