About this place
Drama is a compact regional city tucked into a valley in Northern Greece — its name fittingly means “rich in water.” Because it sits off the main tourist trail, it offers a chance to see everyday Greek life without the crowds, while still providing lively cafes, a compact market, and easy access to archaeological treasures such as the ancient theatre of Philippi.

- Train alternative — a less expensive train connection exists from Thessaloniki or Athens, though the station is about a ten-minute walk from the centre.
- Driving — the Egnatia freeway makes Drama an easy drive (under two hours from Thessaloniki, roughly 30 minutes from Kavala) and a car unlocks the surrounding countryside.
