About this place
Dortmund, with a population of around 600,000, is the largest city in the Ruhr area and the geographical heart of North Rhine-Westphalia. While internationally famous for its beer and the legendary football club Borussia Dortmund (BVB), the city has shed its gritty industrial past to reveal a vibrant, cultural side with excellent shopping, fascinating museums, and a surprisingly green landscape.
Though the city center was largely rebuilt after World War II, the surrounding historic quarters like the Kreuzviertel and Kaiserviertel escaped the destruction, offering charming streets full of cafes, pubs, and independent boutiques.
