About this place
Dharān is a city in eastern Nepal’s Sunsari district, often called the city of football or mini-Brazil for its deep passion for the sport. It sits where the Terai plains give way to the Mahabharat foothills, making it a natural gateway to nearby hill stations and the wider Himalayan landscape. The location brings a mild climate — warm summers, cool winters, and a comfortable feel for much of the year.
The city carries an intriguing industrial past, shaped by the construction of the Koshi Barrage in the 1950s and the railway built to haul boulders from local quarries. While the tracks are long gone, its role as a transport and commercial hub endures, and today’s Dharān blends small-city bustle with access to nature.
