About this place
Chernihiv is one of Ukraine's most ancient and historically rich cities, set about 150 km north of Kyiv. In medieval times it ranked as the second most important center of the ancient Rus' state, and today its remarkably preserved Orthodox churches and monasteries form an invaluable treasury of Kyivan Rus' art.
A compact provincial capital, Chernihiv rewards visitors with sacred Christian temples that date back nearly 1,000 years, along with leafy parks, museums, and a distinctly charming atmosphere. The ancient core known as Detinets concentrates several cathedral gems, while Antony Caves offer a rare underground monastic experience.
