About this place
Dagupan is the largest city in Pangasinan and the region's primary commercial hub, set along the Lingayen Gulf. Its name is believed to come from the Pangasinan word "dagup," meaning a place to ferry across a river. The city is famously celebrated as the Bangus Capital City for its thriving milkfish industry, highlighted by the annual Bangus Festival.
History runs deep here, from pre-colonial roots in the polity of Kaboloan to its development as a Spanish-era fishing and trading port. The city sustained major damage during the 1990 Luzon earthquake, where parts of the delta land sank, but it has rebuilt into a lively urban center.
